UK & Irish Nationals Event Rules

Event rules

Kit

For all events the following kit is allowed; elbow sleeves, knee sleeves, belts, under-belts, wrist wraps, chalk, compression cuffs, all neoprene products, lifting straps (except on farmers). 1 garment per joint (you are allowed a belt over an under-belt). If it is not listed then it is not allowed. If an athlete is found to have been wearing kit that is not allowed for an event, their score will be zero for that event.

Competition t-shirt must worn at all times, failure to do so will result in a score zero of the event affected. Athletes can not touch/ rearrange any implements before the whistle on any event, other than starting ‘hands on’ on farmers.

Event 1

Deadlift for reps. 60 sec time limit, you strap in on your own time.

Cerberus Power Bars.

There are 4 weight options, you will tell us which weight you are going for when you weigh in/ register. You will not be allowed to then change your selection, however (PLEASE READ CAREFULLY), there will be 2 bars (the weight you selected and the weight below left out, meaning you can drop down when you are on the platform. So if you choose 300, when you go out to the platform there will be 300 and 270 loaded, and you can score on either bar. Once you have registered a rep on a bar, you can not then change.

Standard deadlift rules apply, conventional stance, at the top you must stand up straight with knees and hips locked with shoulders back and feet in line and wait on the referees down command to be awarded the rep. Touch and go reps are not allowed, slack must be taken out of the bar at the bottom of the deadlift before going for your next rep. Regardless of whether the athlete thinks that they have achieved all of the points to make successful rep or not, the athlete MUST wait on the referee’s down command in order to receive the rep. Down command must be given before the whistle at the end of 60 seconds for the rep to count.

Event 2

Axle Ground to Overhead for reps. 60 sec time limit.

Cerberus Axle Bars with Apollons Wheels (13” height).

So if you choose 85, when you go out to the platform there will be 85 and 75 loaded, and you can score on either bar. Once you have registered a rep on a bar, you can not then change.

Standard overhead rules apply, the axle is brought from the floor (or pads) to overhead each rep, at the top you must have the bar locked above your head each time with elbows locked and head through, knees and hips must also be locked and feet in-line to get the down command, after the down command the axle must be brought down on to the drop pads with some level of control or the rep to count. Should the bar roll off, the athlete must go and get it, should the bar be dumped in a reckless manner, the rep will be disallowed. Regardless of whether the athlete thinks that they have achieved all of the points to make successful rep or not, the athlete MUST wait on the referee’s down command in order to receive the rep. Down command must be given before the whistle at the end of 60 seconds for the rep to count.

Please Note: As the axles weigh 25KG and the Apollons Wheels 20KG each, the 55KG option will be done from bumper plates and drop pads.

Event 3

Husafell Sandbag Carry for Distance. 60 sec time limit.

Women: 70KG (60KG Cerberus Husafell filled with sand and lead to 70KG), 90KG (80KG Cerberus Husafell filled with sand and lead to 90KG).

Men: 100KG (100KG Cerberus Husafell filled with sand), 130KG (120KG Cerberus Husafell filled with sand and lead to 130KG).

Any score ABOVE 20m on the heavier bag, will trump any score on the light bag.

There are 2 weight options for men and women. Both weight options will be available when you go out, they will be in the ‘dead zone’ box where you will pick your bag from the floor. Should you try and pick up the heavier bag and fail, you can then go for the lighter bag provided you have not left the dead zone, once you have crossed the line, the bag you have is the one you will score on and your distance will be taken when you drop the bag or when your time runs out. Please note that while you can spend as much time in the dead zone trying to pick up whichever bag you can, you will be doing so in your own time, when the whistle goes your 60 seconds has started. When the athlete has picked the bag up they will carry it in a ‘front carry’ position (ie not on shoulder), there will be a line 10m from the start line, when you get to the line you must break the line with at least 1 foot before you can turn. What this means is that a part of your foot should be completely over the line and the part of the line affected will not be visible due to being completely covered by your foot. Your referee is not responsible for telling you to turn (you can ask them to do so, but please bare in mind it will be noisy, and it is not the referees fault should you mishear, you ask the referee at your discretion), it is the athletes responsibility to know where the line is and get their foot over it. The athlete can rest with the bag on their lap at any point, but this will be done in the athletes time. Belt buckles must be turned to the back, and the bag must not be seen to be resting on the belt.

Event 4

Farmers Walk Ladder. 60 sec time limit.

Strength Shop Riot Farmers Handles with bumper plates to start, 5KG metal plates for loading.

Athlete starts ‘hands on’ the farmers with the lightest weight on. When the whistle blows, athlete picks up the farmers and carries them 10m before putting them down with the front of both implements breaking the line (refer back to Husafell rules for what breaking the line means). Once the farmers handles are dropped over the line the athlete then picks up 4x5kg plates and loads them evenly (1 on each pin) before picking the farmers back up and carrying them back 10m to where they started, with the same rules applying on crossing the line each time. The athlete continues in this fashion until they complete the 40m course, or until they drop the farmers outside the dead zone, or until their 60 seconds has elapsed, whichever comes first. Athletes will be split timed on each 10m they complete, and should the athlete drop the farmers outside of the ‘dead zone’ then their run is over and they’ll have a time given for their previous full 10m completed.

*NOTE* We have tried and tested a few different options here, and we have decided to stick with the self loading. We tried having loaders hand athlete 2 plates to out on front while loads put 2 on the back, but we are then running the risk of mistakes from loaders. We understand not everyone loves this event, but with trying out this new concept this is what we have decided to go with for now. We will review again after the event. In the meantime, practice loading plates to minimise the amount of time that takes you.

Plate placement: When the athlete 'breaks the line' with the farmers, the 4x5KG plates will be stacked on top of one another, in the middle, 500mm in front of the line, there will be a small plate like a 1.25 underneath the 5s, allowing athletes to get their fingers under the plates.

Event 5

Sandball Over Yoke for reps. 60 sec time limit.

Cerberus Sandstone Sandbags.

Women’s weights 60/80/100KG over 44”

Men’s weights 100/120/140KG over 48” - all sandballs will be true to size (ie 100KG Cerberus Sandball with 100KG sand in), we will try and ensure bags are packed as tightly as possible.

All 3 sandballs will be lying out when the athlete goes out. Athlete can stand over their chosen implement, but needs to start hands off, this means that the first rep will be a small distance away from the yoke which it must be loaded over (around 500mm), if an athlete selects a bag and fails it, they can go down, while they’re retrieving their other bag their loader will do their best to remove the bag they just failed out of the athletes way so that the athlete can then start loading the other bag. Once an athlete has loaded the first rep on a bag, that is the only bag they can score on. Reps are awarded each time the bag is loaded over the bar and hits the floor on the other side. Athletes can go round, or under the yoke in whichever way they like, please note if the athlete opts to go under the yoke there is a possibility that they bump their head, that is done so at the athletes own risk. Sandball must hit the floor before the whistle at the end of 60 seconds for the rep to count.
